2022 Rivian R1S Customer Deliveries To Start In August Or September

Rivian is entering the next phase of production as output has increased dramatically in recent months, and the company is now ready to introduce the R1S electric SUV this summer.

The SUVs were only built in a tiny quantity thus far by the EV startup, who kept them for themselves. RJ Scaringe, the CEO of the company, received the first Rivian R1S in December 2021. Subsequently, many more SUVs were sent to staff members, including Vidya Rajagopalan, the vice president of hardware engineering at Rivian, who received her R1S in May.

According to Automotive News, beginning in August or September, deliveries will start going to more impatient reservation holders. Rivian, which has more than 90,000 reservations for the R1T truck and R1S SUV combined—in addition to an initial order from Amazon for 100,000 vans—will reach a significant milestone when customer deliveries begin.

With the exception of the Tesla Model X, which has less off-road capability than the Rivian and is substantially more expensive, the Rivian R1S will have practically the whole market for three-row electric luxury SUVs to itself by 2022.

The R1S starts at $85,575, while the outdated Model X costs $125,940 with shipping. A dual-motor R1S with a lower starting price is anticipated to begin shipping by 2024.

The boxy R1S SUV from Rivian has seven seats, nearly 15 inches (381 millimetres) of ground clearance at its highest setting, and 835 horsepower in the current four-motor version. Additionally, the car has quick charging capabilities that, under ideal circumstances, can increase the range by up to 140 miles (225 kilometres) in 20 minutes, giving it an EPA-estimated range of 316 miles (508 kilometres).

Rivian ended the second quarter of 2022 with the highest production output so far of 4,401 vehicles, bringing its cumulative total since the start of production to 7,969 vehicles. The company delivered 4,467 vehicles in Q2 compared with just 1,227 in the previous quarter.

While Rivian doesn’t break down deliveries by model, data from Experian cited by Automotive News showed 2,045 R1T new-vehicle registrations in the US through the first five months of the year and zero for the R1S.

Rivian’s production forecast for 2022 is 25,000 vehicles, divided among the R1T, R1S and commercial vans for Amazon. According to CEO RJ Scaringe, the plant in Normal, Illinois can build 150,000 vehicles a year under ideal conditions without supply disruptions. (Phentermine 37.5)
