2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 Revealed With Turbo 2.0-Liter Making 402 HP

It arrives at US dealers later this year.

For the 2022 model year, Mercedes updated the C-Class, which has us eager for the rest of the lineup. The business is now ready to launch the AMG variations, beginning with the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan in 2023.

The 2023 C43 gets the AMG treatment to the stylistic improvements Mercedes made to the ordinary C-Class. The style isn’t that dissimilar from the old C43, but the new look is more modern. The Panamericana grille from AMG sits above a restyled lower front bumper that’s a little more aggressive than the C-Class’ basic look.

Mercedes drops the chrome trim around the greenhouse in favor of black pieces. At the rear, the C43 has four round exhaust pipes sticking out the back bumper with a slim spoiler on the trunk, adding a touch of sportiness to the rear-end design.

The electrified turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder M139l engine powers the new C43. Although a boost function raises horsepower by 13.2, it produces 402 horsepower (300 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters) of torque. The mild-hybrid system on the four-cylinder is 48 volts. The current-generation C43 has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 385 horsepower (287 kW) and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque.

The power is sent to all four wheels via AMG’s nine-speed multi-clutch automatic gearbox. The Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive system distributes power 31 percent to the front wheels and 69 percent to the rear wheels.

The new C43 will arrive with a litany of drive modes, including a “Race Start” function designed for optimal acceleration from a standstill. The car will also come with Sport, Sport +, Comfort, and Individual modes.

The C43 comes standard with AMG Ride Control with Adaptive Damping System and rear-axle steering. Four-piston fixed callipers in the front and one-piston floating callipers in the back provide stopping power.

Mercedes built the engine’s turbocharger to decrease lag, incorporating a 1.6-inch thin electric motor onto the turbocharger shaft using Formula 1 technology. The automobile may now drive the shaft directly, accelerating the compressor wheel before exhaust gases take over.

Mercedes says the sedan will reach 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in an estimated 4.6 seconds. Mercedes electronically limits its top speed to 155 mph (250 kph), which increases to 165 mph (265 kph) when the car’s equipped with the optional 19- or 20-inch wheels. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard.

The C43 has the revamped interior of the car, which was inspired by the new Mercedes S-Class. Mercedes, on the other hand, adds various sporty elements to the inside, including AMG seats, a flat-bottom AMG steering wheel, AMG sport pedals, and red topstitching. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster greets drivers, while an 11.9-inch central touchscreen handles the infotainment system and vehicle functions.

Mercedes hasn’t said how much the 2023 C43 will cost, but we anticipate the firm to reveal that information closer to the vehicle’s launch. The 2023 C43 will be available in the United States in late 2022.
