2024 Volkswagen Passat Render Looks Like A Sporty Stretched Golf Wagon

Coming to America?

Due to the downturn in mid-size car sales, numerous manufacturers have limited or discontinued sales in certain areas. Volkswagen picked the former for the current-generation Passat, but the German automaker didn’t want to lose one of its most enduring names.

Volkswagen’s approach is to phase out the sedan in most of Europe and keep the car’s heritage alive as a station waggon. After all, on the Old Continent, the waggon body (known as the Passat Variant) outsells the sedan by a significant margin.

Our spy photographers have observed the next-generation Passat Variant in its production body driving about. For the time being, the car is dressed in fake panels, but that hasn’t stopped a few magazines from depicting it. Kolesa.ru set to work and created a rendering of the new waggon without the bogus panels.

The Russian publication reckons the roadgoing future Passat will have upswept headlights like the Golf. There seem to be elements from the China-only Lamando L, albeit not as extreme-looking. The render also reflects the spy photo car’s sleeker roofline and longer windows. As for the rear, there is a good chance it will have full-width taillights, a rakish tailgate, and a wide opening. We’re also curious what the lesser models might look like since the render is more like an R-Line model.

For the time being, the next-generation Passat is still in the early stages of development. There isn’t much information regarding the vehicle’s powertrain possibilities, but we expect a variety of mild-hybrid gas engines, plug-in hybrids, and even a diesel for European markets. While the Passat’s future in the United States is questionable, the higher Alltrack variant should appeal to the crossover crowd.

For the 2022 model year, Volkswagen USA discontinued the Passat. You’ll have to choose between the smaller Jetta and the expensive Arteon if you still want a four-door Volkswagen. However, if you insist on having the Passat name stamped on the trunk lid, you’ll have to relocate to mainland China.
