7 Upcoming Tata SUVs In India

SUVs have become increasingly popular among Indian shoppers in recent years. To take advantage of this, carmakers in our country have started cranking out new SUVs, with Tata Motors being one of them. There are currently a couple of SUVs in the portfolio from the local automaker, and more are on the way.

We’ve compiled a list of seven Upcoming Tata SUVs that are generating a lot of buzz in the Indian car industry!

1. Tata Nexon EV Update

Tata Motors is working on an update for its best-selling electric vehicle, the Nexon EV, that will be released in the coming months. A larger battery option for the electric SUV is expected, likely a 40 kWh battery pack, which will be available alongside the present 30.2 kWh battery option.

The new Nexon EV is expected to have a few cosmetic differences from the current model. Additional features and equipment, such as disc brakes on all four wheels, an upgraded infotainment system, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, and so on, are expected.

2. Tata Punch i-TURBO

Tata Punch was introduced in October of last year and has quickly become one of India’s most popular vehicles. Currently, the micro-SUV has only one engine option – a 1.2L NA petrol mill – but that will change shortly, possibly by the end of 2022.

Punch will get a second powertrain choice, which will be a turbocharged version of the 1.2L petrol engine with a maximum power output of 110 PS, according to the local manufacturer. We don’t foresee any changes to the vehicle aside from the more powerful engine.

3. Upcoming Tata Mid-Size SUV

Tata Motors is currently working on a completely new midsize SUV with a coupe design. It is likely to be based on a modified version of the brand’s ‘X1’ platform, which also powers Nexon, and has been dubbed ‘Blackbird’ by the media.

According to rumors, Tata’s next midsize SUV would come with two IC engine options: a 1.5L turbo-petrol and a 1.5L turbo-diesel, as well as manual and automatic transmission options.

4. Upcoming Tata Electric SUV

Surprisingly, the local automaker is also developing an electric version of its upcoming midsize SUV. According to sources, the EV version of this new SUV would be available in India before the IC engine version, most likely in 2023 or 2024!

This midsize electric SUV, according to rumours, will be equipped with a 40 kWh battery pack, comparable to Tata Nexon’s planned long-range model. Officially, it should have a driving range of roughly 400 kilometers, while real-world estimates would be far lower. As more information becomes available online, we’ll learn more about the technical specifications.

5. Tata Harrier Petrol

The Tata Harrier now has only one engine option: a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit from FCA that produces 170 PS and 350 Nm. The SUV will have a petrol engine option later this year or early next year, which would make it more affordable in the Indian market.

This new petrol engine will most likely be a four-cylinder version of Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged inline-3 petrol engine. It will be 1.5 litres in capacity, with a peak output of over 150 PS projected thanks to forced induction. Both manual and automatic transmission options are likely to be available.

6. Tata Safari Petrol

Tata Safari features a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine (170 PS/350 Nm) under the hood, just like Harrier. Although a fantastic engine, it is extremely costly, and the demand for petrol vehicles in India has been rapidly increasing in recent years.

As a result, Tata is aiming to release a petrol version of the Safari at the same time as the Harrier. The petrol engine will be the same 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-4 motor that will be offered on the latter, with the same power output most likely.

7. Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors intends to reintroduce the ‘Sierra’ brand in India before 2025. The next-generation model was unveiled as a concept at the 2020 Auto Show, and it was an electric car. Yes, the new Tata Sierra will be an electric vehicle, with no IC engine available.

The Tata Sierra EV will be built on the company’s new Sigma platform, which is an electric vehicle-only variant of the ALFA platform. The Sigma platform will allow the car be lighter and more spacious than an ICE vehicle-based EV because it will be optimised for an electric powertrain.
