Ferrari’s Iconic Rosso Dino Paint Color’s Meaning

With endless shades of vibrant red paint codes, Rosso Dino stands out as an extra special finish.

Every car lover on the planet can agree that the Ferrari name will always be associated with the color red because each vehicle leaves the Maranello factory sporting the vivid tint. The Italian supercar manufacturer started off small, but soon expanded its range of red hues, giving each their own distinct identities. Rosso Dino, which made its debut in the 1960s on famous models like the Ferrari 250 GTO, is one of the most recognizable colors in Ferrari history. When a customer requested that his Ferrari Enzo be painted in Rosso Dino in 2002, the hue was once again added to the brand’s palette after some time spent outside the paint booth.

The first son of founder Enzo Ferrari, Alfredo “Dino,” an Italian automotive engineer who discovered a passion and a profession in his father’s industry, gave the Rosso Dino color its name. Dino was working on a particular model when he tragically passed away at the age of 24 from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Enzo gave the model his name. Ferrari called the reddish-orange color for Enzo’s adored son in addition to the Dino chassis. The Ferrari factory now frequently uses Rosso Dino, a color that has a hue that resembles a beautiful sunset.
