Anand Mahindra, who is quick to respond to anything fascinating on Twitter, uploaded a photo from Mizoram. The popular photo depicts Mizoram drivers adhering to lane discipline. What makes it so unique? You can judge for yourself.

The image depicts all motorists, including two-wheeler riders, calmly waiting in a line. This isn’t unusual in the United States, but it’s unusual in India. Why is Lane Discipline Important ?

Simply said, lane discipline lessens overall congestion. When everyone waits patiently on the roadways, traffic congestion is greatly reduced. Everyone in India wants to get ahead, which causes a bottleneck on the roadways and increases overall travel time.

Longer traffic delays might sometimes spread to neighbouring areas, causing gridlock. As a result, most cities have gridlock during rush hour. Instead, wait patiently for the traffic to disperse correctly.

The amount of accidents on the roadways is also reduced by maintaining the lanes. When travelling in lanes, people are more aware of their surroundings, which is why lane splitting can result in accidents, especially on highways.

Not Maintaining Lane Discipline is Illegal

In India, no one adheres to lane discipline. It is against the law not to do so. The police can issue a citation, but no officer has yet to effectively enforce it.

Most major cities now have a network of CCTV cameras that are closely monitored by a police squad. The cops monitor the registration number and issue a challan based on the violation. Many online challans, however, are incorrect due to faulty number plates. Wrong challans can be disputed through the traffic police’s redress portal. The government and authorities have recently sought to boost the challan sum. The fines have been increased in order to limit the number of offences and make the roadways safer.

India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, as well as one of the highest fatality rates. Many road users die as a result of rash driving and failure to respect traffic laws. The goal of the surveillance is to limit the number of people who engage in unsafe driving behaviour.

The police have even begun a crackdown on automobiles that do not have or do not use rearview mirrors. The cops in Hyderabad have begun issuing challans to two-wheeler owners who do not have mirrors placed on their vehicles. Other cities’ cops are anticipated to follow suit in the not-too-distant future.
