As the brand-wise sales statistics for August 2024, Maruti Suzuki continued to be the most popular automobile brand in the previous month. More cars were sent out by the manufacturer than by Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai put together. Let’s examine the August 2024 brand-wise sales data in more detail.

August 2024 saw Maruti Suzuki maintain its top spot in the market for cars, as the company became the first to sell one million or more units overall. The carmaker outshipped Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra combined by 6,131 units. Despite a slight increase in monthly sales, Maruti’s year-over-year (YoY) sales decreased by about 8.5 percent in the previous month.
In August 2024, Hyundai ranked second with more over 49,500 units shipped. The Korean manufacturer did, however, nonetheless see an 8% drop in annual sales and a slight increase month over month.
Despite being the third-best-selling auto brand last month, Tata is the only company on the list to have had a drop in sales both year over year and month over month, by a little more than 3 percent and 1 percent, respectively.
In August 2024, Mahindra’s yearly sales increased by over 6,000 units, while its monthly sales increased by over 1,500 units. Over 43,000 vehicles were sent by the Indian carmaker last month.
Toyota shipped over 28,500 automobiles last month, marking the largest increase in annual sales of more than 36%. The Japanese manufacturer did, however, experience a minor 3 percent decline in MoM sales.
In August 2024, Kia shipped more than 22,500 vehicles, showing positive growth in monthly and annual sales of about 10% and 17%, respectively.
In August 2024, Honda exceeded the 5,000 unit sales milestone, registering a gain in MoM sales of almost 15 percent. But the carmaker saw the worst drop in annual sales—more than 32 percent.
August 2024 saw MG’s monthly sales stay stable at around 4,500 units sold for the brand. Additionally, MG’s annual revenue increased by little more than 9%.
In August 2024, Volkswagen sold 170 more vehicles than it did in July. Its YoY sales were still less than 14%, nevertheless.
