Auto Sales January 2025

In January, manufacturers like as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota India reported an increase in sales, while sales at Hyundai and Tata dropped.

India’s automakers have revealed individual sales figures for January 2025. Companies such as Maruti Suzuki, MG, and Toyota India reported increased sales, while Hyundai India and Tata Motors recorded declines. Here’s a glimpse of how each brand performed.

Maruti Suzuki

In January 2025, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,73,599 passenger automobiles in the domestic market, a 4% increase over the previous year. The carmaker’s Mini segment sales continued to decrease, with 14,247 units sold, more than 10% lower than in January 2024. However, Maruti’s compact car sales increased significantly, with the firm selling 82,241 units, 7.4% more than the same period last year, when sales totaled 92,382 units. Utility vehicle sales increased somewhat, from 62,038 in January 2024 to 65,093 in January 2025 (4.92 percent). The company’s exports for the month totaled 27,100 units, more than 13% higher than January 2024 (23,921 units).

Hyundai India

Hyundai India experienced a decline in sales in January 2025. The Korean automaker’s India operations sold 65,603 units, a decrease of approximately 3% from 67,615 units in January 2025. Domestic sales declined year on year from 57,115 to 54,003 units (a 5.44 percent decrease), while exports grew marginally from 10,500 to 11,600 units (10.47 percent rise). Hyundai also said that it sold 18,522 units of the Creta SUV this month, the all-electric version of which was shown at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo amid considerable anticipation.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors’ sales declined sharply in January 2025, with a noteworthy drop in EV sales. The manufacturer sold 48,316 passenger vehicles, down 11% year on year (January 2024 sales: 54,033 units). PV sales in the domestic market totaled 48,078 units, a 10% decrease from January 2024, when it sold 53,633. However, the company’s electric vehicle sales dropped the most. Tata sold 5240 EVs this month, a 25% decrease from the same month last year, when EV sales totaled 6979 units. Exports also fell 40%, from 400 units in January 2025 to 240 units in January 2024.

Toyota India

Toyota India sold 29,371 cars in January, up 19% year on year. Domestic sales increased from 23,197 units in January 2024 to 26,178 units (12.85 percent) in January 2025, while exports increased by more than 100% to 3193 units from 1412 units.

JSW MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India’s sales increased by a stunning 256 percent year on year, reaching 4455 units in January 2025. EV sales accounted for 70% of the company’s sales volume for the month. MG’s sales have increased in recent years, with the introduction of the Windsor EV, which has developed to become a popular vehicle in its category. Following a good performance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, MG is preparing to introduce a number of new products in the coming months. These include the all-electric two-door Cyberster and the M9, which will be sold through its premium dealer channel known as ‘MG Select’ when it launches. The company is also likely to debut the Majestor in India.

Mahindra Automotive

In January 2025, Mahindra sold 50,659 vehicles in the domestic market, an 18% increase over the previous year. Cumulative SUV sales, including exports, for the month totaled 52,306 units, a significant increase of 19.24 percent. Mahindra is now preparing to completely unveil the costs of its latest EVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9E. The two EVs received five stars for adult and kid occupant protection in the most recent Bharat NCAP crash tests. The electric SUVs also made their public appearance at the recently completed Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

Kia India

Kia India’s sales in January 2025 were 25,025 units, a 5% increase over the previous year. Sales of the Sonet, Carens, and Seltos were stable with 7,194, 5522, and 6,470 units, respectively. Kia also stated that it had dispatched 5,546 new Syros. The Syros, which debuted in December, is positioned above the Sonet in Kia’s portfolio as a more luxury alternative, although having similar proportions to the latter. The subcompact SUV costs between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).

Honda Cars India

Honda’s sales in India declined roughly 7% year on year, with 12,304 units sold over the course of the month. Domestic sales decreased from 8681 units in January 2024 to 7325 units in January 2025, while exports increased year on year from 4531 to 4979 units in January 2025. Honda’s most recent launch in India was the all-new Amaze subcompact sedan in December 2024, which is now in its third iteration.
