Bentley to Launch Five New EVs by 2030, Including a New Model in 2025

The all-new model comes first, and we’re betting it will be an SUV slotted below the Bentayga.

In a press conference today, Bentley reaffirmed its commitment to go electric, although the move to EVs is not new. In 2019, the British luxury company unveiled its electrification strategy, stating that it would produce its final combustion engine by 2030. Now, the business has announced that it would launch a 100% EV in 2025, followed by another electric model in each of the next four years.

  • Bentley follows through on previously announced plans to go electric by saying it will launch its first all-electric model in 2025.
  • The statement today is in line with a commitment made in 2019 to build Bentley’s final internal-combustion engine in 2030.
  • With five new models coming—one per year until 2030—we expect four will replace the existing Bentayga, Flying Spur, and Continental GT coupe and convertible, while the fifth will be an all-new model.

We’ll have to wait for further information on the new models, but Bentley’s head of engineering Matthias Rabe said today in an online news conference that each will be “a completely new car, a completely new type.” Given that the company currently only offers four models—the Bentayga SUV, the Flying Spur sedan, and the Continental GT coupe and convertible—basic math suggests that the entire family will be effectively replaced by full electric vehicles sooner rather than later, and that a new model will be added to the lineup.

Without a direct tie to an existing model, Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark labelled this new model as a “game changer”; our guess is a sub-Bentayga crossover. Present models will be replaced with EV vehicles as they reach the end of their lifespan, with a new Bentayga in 2026, a Continental coupe in 2027, a Continental convertible in 2028, and a new Flying Spur in 2029, according to the planned launch cadence (and the age of the existing lineup).

We may fairly assume that these new electric cars would share core technology with other high-end models in the Bentley family, as we expect the next-generation Porsche Cayenne will feature an EV variation, which would be a natural base for a Bentley sister. Lamborghini’s progress toward electrification appears to be on par with Bentley’s, implying some obvious synergies. However, Bentley has stated that all of the new cars would be engineered and constructed at the company’s existing factory in Crewe, England, which will be modernised and carbon-neutralized as part of a $3.4 billion investment. (Bentley has also suggested that the renovated historic site will be known as the “Dream Factory.”)

While full electric vehicles are likely to garner the most attention, Bentley has hinted that more powerful plug-in hybrids may be on the way before the company abandons combustion altogether. We already know that a hybridised Continental is on the way, but Rabe also promised “far more powerful” PHEVs in the future. Given that Bentley’s two plug-ins employ V-6 power from elsewhere in the group, this means that the Cayenne Turbo S E-brawnier Hybrid’s V-8 system, which Lamborghini insiders have told us will be used in the upcoming Urus, may be added.
