The BMW M5 CS is one of the most powerful performance sedans on the market. The German four-door is simply hard to beat in terms of numbers, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a worthy rival.
We’re talking about the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, and while we know that a major update is on the way for the 2024 model year, the current model is still a powerful machine. Allow the Porsche to prove its worth in a straight line with this drag race against the BMW M5 CS, courtesy of carwow in the UK.
In terms of numbers, both German sedans are beasts, but the BMW has a clear advantage over the Porsche.
The M5 CS’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine produces 626 horsepower (467 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque. That much power propels the sedan’s 4,023 pounds (1,825 kilograms) weight.
The Panamera Turbo S, on the other hand, has a twin-turbo V8 with a slightly smaller displacement of 4.0-liter. It produces slightly less power, but it is important to note that the Porsche produces significantly more torque at 605 lb-ft (820 Nm).
The Panamera, on the other hand, required that extra oomph at the line because it is 562 lbs (255 kgs) heavier than the BMW, or the weight of approximately three people. This is bad news for the Porsche sedan in a race where weight is crucial.
