Bruno Senna Drives McLaren Artura On New Miami GP Circuit

The new McLaren Artura debuts the future of McLaren road cars.

Bruno Senna had the opportunity to test the track in the McLaren Artura supercar to start off Formula One’s weekend at the new Grand Prix circuit in Miami. This brand-new supercar combines McLaren’s legendary performance with the extra benefit of hybrid power. Bruno Senna’s uncle, famed Formula One driver Ayrton Senna, won his last race on American soil twenty-one years ago at the US Grand Prix on the streets of Phoenix, thus it was only natural that his nephew Bruno pilot the latest McLaren supercar over this thrilling new American F1 track.

The new Formula One track in Miami was purpose-built to accommodate F1 races for many years to come. The 2017 Miami Gand Prix will be the circuit’s first full race, and it promises to present drivers with a unique challenge. Drivers must first learn about this brand new track and become accustomed with all of its distinctive peculiarities, after which the course will be rubberized.

Most of the courses where F1 races are heavily used by other racing series, thus there is a familiar layer of rubber on the racing line. Before F1 arrived on the Miami circuit, the only other cars on the track were supercars driven for fun by owners and renters.

Thankfully Bruno Senna was onsite with the new McLaren Artura to help with the track’s rubbering in process. Before the F1 cars hit the track for free practice, Bruno Senna had the opportunity to test out the latest car from the company that give his uncle three world championships.

The McLaren Artura is a one-of-a-kind hybrid supercar with a slew of novel innovations that will appear on future McLarens. The McLaren Artura has a brand-new carbon tub that is both lighter and better suited to hybrid powertrains. A 3.0-liter V6 engine and an axial flux E-motor combine to produce 671 horsepower (500 kW) and 531 pound-feet (720 Newton Meters) of torque.

“It was genuinely incredible to be able to push the McLaren Artura around this dynamic and free-flowing new Grand Prix circuit in the heart of Miami,” Bruno Senna said of the Artura on track. The Artura is a car that keeps on giving, especially on a track; it’s sleek and polished, but it has an aggressive edge that’s just waiting to be uncovered when you use the E-motor in conjunction with the powerful V6 engine. It’s safe and enjoyable, making it ideal for a Grand Prix weekend.”
