Cool Interior Designed By GM Could Have Been Fantastic For Camaro

The official Instagram account for General Motors Design studios is filled with incredible artwork. Some of it is very abstract, while others display intricately detailed vehicle exteriors and interiors. This time, we’ve got a sketch of a really slick Chevrolet interior. While there’s no official word on the car’s identity, we can’t help but wonder whether this is the next-generation Camaro.

The manual gearbox lever on the middle console is the telltale sign. The C8 Chevrolet Corvette doesn’t have this option, and there’s nothing else in Chevy’s lineup that would welcome a three-pedal layout, either because of the platform or because of the customers who buy it. Could this be a future Corvette? That is exceedingly implausible, given that this interior lacks the significant centre spine found in the C8’s greenhouse. And it makes logical to see some Corvette influence in a next-generation Camaro, particularly with the digital dash and squared-off, two-spoke steering wheel.

The rest of the interior is largely comparable to the existing Camaro, including a centre console with a triangle armrest and cupholders on the passenger side. The tiny windows also match the bill, and a power bulge on the hood can be seen through the windshield. (ortery) So, yes, this may be the greenhouse for the next-generation Camaro, which would be quite exciting if Chevrolet were to produce one. Unfortunately, that is also exceedingly unlikely.

To be clear, the Camaro is not yet officially extinct. Every query we’ve posed to Chevrolet about the Camaro’s future has been met with silence, though there’s no sign that a seventh-generation car is in the works. Camaro sales have been on the decline for years, with the exception of a minor uptick through the first half of 2022.

At this time, rumors point to 2024 as the end of the line for Chevrolet’s pony car. That coincides with the planned sixth-generation lifecycle, but before it bows out we could get a special edition of some sort honoring the long-time Ford Mustang competitor. We suspect 2023 will see a few tears shed in the Chevrolet camp.
