Driver Crashes McLaren 600 LT – Stuck Under Guardrail

Driver crashes $200K sports car, leaving the 600-horsepower luxury coupe stuck under guardrail

On a highway near Tacoma, Washington State Patrol police discovered an empty, destroyed McLaren 600 LT – a sports vehicle worth more than $200,000 — almost cut in two by a railing.

According to Trooper John Dattilo, the state patrol is investigating the collision on Washington State Route 512 in Pierce County but has not discovered its owner.

The driver of the expensive automobile, which has about 600 horsepower and can hit 60 miles per hour in just three seconds, fled the scene of the accident. Monday night, troopers hauled the car away.

It’s not known if the driver was injured. Photos show the coupe wedged under a metal railing with the driver’s side gull-wing-style door open.

“This kind of crash happens all the time, where people don’t want to get in trouble so they leave the car behind,” Dattilo said. “But it’s not necessarily common for it to be a $200,000 McLaren, though.”

The car hasn’t been reported stolen, and its registered owner lives in Washington, Dattilo said. The car still has dealership plates.

On Twitter, people floated theories about what happened, with some assuming the car was stolen or taken for a joyride by a valet driver.
