Ferrari 488 Pista Looks Totaled After Crashing Under Highway Guardrail

Thankfully, there were no injuries from this frightening crash that happened in Poland.

Another supercar appears to have crashed due to less-than-ideal driving circumstances. On February 11, a limited-edition Ferrari 488 Pista crashed into — and beneath – a railing while driving along a straight stretch of roadway. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded. Unfortunately, the Ferrari is now most likely a parts car.

The single-car accident happened about 9:00 a.m. local time in Poland’s northwest area, near Wyrzysk. According to Auto Swiat, the weather at the time of the crash was damp, with rain falling and temperatures near freezing. The Wyrzysk Volunteer Fire Department published photographs of the aftermath and a description of the situation in a Facebook post, which is embedded below. The post simply claims that the driver lost control of the vehicle on the S10 highway’s Wyrzyska bypass and that the driver was unharmed.

The front of the 488 has been severely damaged in the photographs, with nearly the entire front clip pulled away and crushed into pieces. The impact was also strong enough – and the automobile was low enough – to send it crashing through the railing, but it wasn’t a simple fit. The glass is shattered, the roof has caved in, and the A-pillars are distorted, almost as if the car has flipped upside down. The Ferrari appears to have skidded for a short distance along the shoulder under the railing, causing it to slice into the engine cover like a can opener. There don’t appear to be any unharmed external body panels.

The 488 Pista comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer tyres as standard equipment. It’s unclear what tyres were on the car when it crashed; even in dry conditions, freezing temps are bad for high-performance summer-compound tyres. In any event, we’re thankful that no one was hurt in this terrifying-looking collision.
