The winner of the auction can customize their new C8 Corvette Z06 Convertible to their exact specification.
The first production C8 Corvette Z06 sold for $1 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida, and the proceeds were dedicated to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The proceeds from the sale of this extremely rare Corvette will be coupled with proceeds from a previous charity auction of a C8 Z06 70th Anniversary coupe, totaling $4.6 million in donations.
The new C8 Corvette Z06 is a game-changer for Chevrolet and naturally aspirated automobiles. The C8 Corvette Z06’s 5.5-liter V8 engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever used in a production vehicle. Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, won the auction of this extremely rare automobile. Hendrick is the owner of Hendrick Motorsports, which has won the NASCAR Cup Series 14 times. His $1 million winning bid will go entirely to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. This gift will benefit TMCF’s new TQRP, a training programme that helps aspiring K-12 educators build the skills they need to succeed in difficult teaching contexts.
The auction was not for a particular spec of C8 Corvette Z06 Convertible so Rick Hendrick will have the opportunity to completely customize his new car. The auction was simply for the opportunity to own the very first production C8 Corvette Z06 Convertible build slot which will make this particular car a collector’s dream.
Chevy had to cease C8 Corvette manufacturing in March owing to parts shortages, but the company never said which parts were in short supply. With Chevy struggling to keep up with current C8 orders, gaining a build slot for the unique C8 Z06 Convertible is a significant victory in a competitive market.
