Ford CEO Pokes Fun At Tesla During F-150 Lightning Production Start Speech

Jim Farley joked that with bi-directional charging capability, the Lightning is able to charge someone else’s Tesla.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is now officially in production at the firm’s historic Rouge plant, and it is regarded as vital as the Model T within the corporation. Several significant announcements were made at the celebration of the start of manufacturing, and Ford CEO Jim Farley even addressed Tesla during his speech.

Farley began to discuss about the F-150 Lightning’s bi-directional charging capacity just after the 31-minute mark of his speech, which is embedded above, pointing out that it can therefore charge other EVs.

The F-150 Lightning is described by Ford as a 10-kilowatt smart power plant on wheels, stressing one of the elements that drew the most attention when it was first revealed. The CEO of the corporation is well aware of this, and the mention of Tesla is not coincidental.

For your friends that own Teslas.

They play a sequence of video of Lightning reservation holders’ emotions when phoned by Darren Palmer, Vice President of Ford’s Electric Vehicle Program, and asked how they will utilise their new electric truck near the end of the recorded webcast. One of them who had reserved a Lightning claimed he was trading in his Tesla.

Ford intends to establish itself as an electric vehicle leader, at least for pickup trucks, with over 200,000 bookings and a yearly production target of 150,000 Lightnings in 2023.

In order to meet the new target, Ford is expanding its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center and it wants to deliver 2-million electric vehicles per year by 2026, or around one third of all production, with a plan to sell 50 percent electric vehicles globally by 2030.

You’ll need to install the $1,310 Ford Charge Station Pro if you want your F-150 Lightning to serve as a backup power source for your home. It comes with the extended range battery pack and serves as both a charging station and an interface for the Lightning, allowing it to feed up to 9.6 kW to a home.
