That’s 437.1 km/h!
The goal of the Hennessey Venom F5 is to break the 300-mph barrier, as almost everyone knows. After surpassing 200 mph (322 km/h) during aerodynamic validation testing in 2021 and 250 mph (402 km/h) during high-speed testing in January, the American-born hypercar is gradually getting there. The airbag-free machine has returned, and this time it clocked 271.6 mph (437.1 km/h).
In February, Hennessey took the Venom F5 to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida to complete final calibrations for the steering, braking, engine, and aerodynamics. To put it another way, the company’s goal was not to achieve a faster speed than in earlier tests. Despite this, it was able to reach a top speed of 271.6 mph (437.1 km/h).

Expect no more high-speed runs in the near future, as firm founder John Hennessey says the company’s primary focus is now on producing automobiles. More than 12 Venom F5s could be delivered this year if everything goes according to plan. High-speed testing will likely begin later in 2022, when we’re expecting the 1,817-horsepower V8 will allow the hypercar to surpass the 300-mph mark, according to the Texas-based tuner’s senior brass.
Long sold out at $2.1 million a pop, the Venom F5 is limited to only 24 units and comes exclusively with a single-clutch, semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The twin-turbo beast has been advertised with a top speed of more than 311 mph (500 km/h), but we’ll believe it when we’ll see it. 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) is said to take 2.6 seconds, although more impressive is the quoted 0-249 mph (0-400 km/h) run in just 15.5 seconds.
SSC North America also wants to hit 300 mph with the Tuatara, so Hennessey isn’t the only one chasing speed records. Hopefully, with its Jesko Absolut, Koenigsegg wants a piece of the action as too. After attaining 304.77 mph with a prototype of the unrestricted Chiron Super Sport 300+, Bugatti is no longer interested in going this fast. It wasn’t the average velocity of a two-way run that was required for an official record, but it was still an outstanding achievement.
