While manufacturing output is still prioritized, supply chain shortages are causing production output to fall short of expectations. In November 2021, Honda Cars India reported domestic sales of 5,457 units. With a volume loss of 4.5k units, the YoY fall was 45.38 percent.
Sales were recorded at 9,990 units last year, with 31 units exported. In November 2021, exports increased to 1,447 units. Total sales in November were just over 6.9 thousand units, including exports. In India, Honda sells the 4th generation City, 5th generation City, Amaze, WR-V, and Jazz.
Production has been reduced from 10k units to nearly half due to production restrictions. In November, HCIL used non-production days to deal with a chip shortage. Sales are down 32.70 percent on a month-over-month basis. 2,651 units have been lost since October 2021, compared to 8,108 units in October 2021.
Less Production
When supply chain disruptions will become more manageable is unclear. Until then, industrial output is likely to be lower than usual. This may continue for a few months. Manufacturers are unable to meet current demand due to production restrictions. In order to bridge the supply-demand imbalance, lengthier delivery date estimations are used. Simultaneously, vehicle launch dates are being revised by manufacturers.
With production schedules already overburdened, it’s preferable not to put any more strain on the system. At the moment, all attention is focused on prompt purchases in order to accelerate manufacturing schedules. While there have been some growth spurts in recent months, restrictions have been consistent for the past 20 months. While Covid-19 lockdown limits restricted output in 2020, the global chip shortage has impeded manufacturing, and thus dispatches, in recent months. According to industry trends, there are quite a few manufacturers.
