Honda & TVS Planning To Launch New Electric Scooters

The electric two-wheeler segment has seen a lot of activity in recent years, with new start-ups like Ola Electric and Ather Energy adding to the competition. Over the next few years, mainstream brands will enter the market to capitalise on the segment’s potential, and competition will only heat up.

1. TVS Electric Scooter

TVS Motor Company’s only EV offering at the moment is the iQube, and the company’s CEO has already stated his intention to expand the lineup across various segments over the next year and a half. The new electrified TVS scooters will have power ratings ranging from 5 to 25 kW. The iQube is powered by a hub motor, which is not ideal for power outputs exceeding 5 kW.

Thus, the Hosur-based manufacturer will more likely use an all-new powertrain in its future applications and a patent filing has surfaced online giving us more details. It denotes the presence of a new mid-mounted electric motor that transfers power to the rear wheel via a transmission housed in the casing that serves as the swingarm.

According to TVS, the drive gear at one end of the casing and the driven gear at the other end are connected by an endless transmission drive, which could be a belt or a chain drive. The speed of the electric motor and the rear wheel will differ. The system could be used in a brand-new electric scooter that will be released in the near future.

2. Honda Activa Electric

The hub motor is located in the back. Honda may also be working on a removable battery pack, as the company plans to use such technology in future models. Initially, the electric scooter may only be aimed at B2B customers, and the design is heavily influenced by the existing Activa 6G.
