Hyundai & Kia Getting TomTom Navigation

In Europe, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has strengthened its ties with TomTom. TomTom will support maps and real-time traffic data in all Hyundai and Kia vehicles on the Old Continent, joining Genesis in the process. When Genesis was launched last summer, it was the first HMG brand to have TomTom loaded right out of European showrooms.

“We are thrilled that all Hyundai and Kia drivers in Europe will benefit from the comfort and safety provided by TomTom’s best-in-class geolocation technology,” said Haeyoung Kwon, Vice President and Head of Infotainment Development Group, HMG. “TomTom is a partner we trust to deliver highly accurate map data that enhances our Highway Driving Assist technology, and real-time traffic information that helps us optimize navigation guidance and ETAs.”

According to the release, this technology will be standard on millions of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles in the coming years.

Carmakers can push automation further with TomTom’s advanced maps and real-time traffic technology, allowing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to better anticipate the road ahead. According to TomTom, its ADAS Map provides higher-quality road information, such as gradient, lanes, curvature, and speed limits, which should improve safety, comfort, and efficiency.

TomTom’s map data also provides accurate content for all speed limit types across Europe, assisting with compliance with the intelligent speed assistance (ISA) regulation, which went into effect in July 2022.

In June, it was reported that Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis would be developing more cars in Europe in the future. The new cars go beyond the N vehicles, which are all developed and tested in Europe for the global market.
