Hyundai Working On A Micro SUV To Replace Santro

Hyundai ceased production of the Santro entry-level hatchback at its Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu a few months ago, unable to replicate the success of the original version, which was introduced in 1998 and laid the groundwork for Hyundai to become the country’s second-largest car manufacturer.

Following a long absence, the Santro nameplate returned to India in late 2018, commemorating the original model’s twentieth anniversary. During its existence, it replaced the Eon and was positioned as the most affordable volume-based car in the company’s domestic range. (alprazolam) (wccannabis) With the discontinuation of the Santro, there is a significant gap in the market, as the current entry-level Hyundai vehicle, the Grand i10 Nios compact hatchback, costs Rs. 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom).

Despite buyers preferring compact and midsize SUVs and passenger vehicle prices rising at an alarming rate, the Tata Punch micro SUV has demonstrated that there is an SUV market to be explored below the current crop of compact SUVs. Since its market debut last year, Tata Motors’ Punch has been a best-seller.

With manufacturers opting out of the entry-level car space due to low profit margins, the success of the Punch could prompt brands such as Hyundai to enter the micro SUV segment. Will it be the world’s Casper? Since the Casper was introduced in South Korea late last year, speculation about its possible entry into the Indian market has been rife.

However, many reports indicated that it may be deemed too small due to its overall length of less than 3.6 metres. The micro SUV for India may be developed specifically for local customers, and it will most likely be released in the near future. It could be powered by the same 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine found in the Grand i10, Nios, and i20.

It is unknown whether its styling will be influenced by the Casper, but we can expect it to be loaded with features. Hyundai is also working on an electric vehicle for India, which is expected to be released in 2024 and will most likely be based on the Venue’s architecture.
