In FY25, passenger vehicle sales are up 2% and two-wheelers are up 9%, according to SIAM.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers reported a 7.3% increase in domestic car sales in FY2025, with sales of 2,56,07,391 vehicles. Passenger car sales increased 2% year on year, with utility vehicles being the key growth driver. Meanwhile, two-wheeler sales increased by 9.1 percent, with scooters leading the push.

Focusing on passenger automobiles, sales fell 12.6% year on year, from 15,48,947 units in FY2024 to 13,53,287 units in FY2025. Meanwhile, utility vehicle sales increased by 11 percent, from 25,20,691 to 27,97,229 units. SIAM estimated that in FY2025, UV sales accounted for 65% of all domestic passenger car sales, up from 60% in FY2024. Van sales peaked at 1,51,332 units, up 1.5 percent from 1,49,112 last year. Total passenger vehicle sales reached 43,01,848 units.

Moving on to the two-wheeler segment, domestic scooter sales increased by 17.4% to 68,53,214 units. Meanwhile, motorcycle sales increased by 5.1%, from 1,16,53237 to 1,22,52,305 units. Moped sales increased by 4.2 percent, from 4,81,803 to 5,01,813 units. Sales in the sector totaled 1,96,07,332 units.

Moving on to the other segments, commercial vehicle sales fell 1.2%, while three-wheeler sales increased 6.7%.

Q4 FY2025 Sales Flat 

Looking at the fourth quarter of FY2025, the Indian auto industry posted a relatively flat 1.8% sales growth. Passenger car sales increased 2.4 percent to 11,62,560 units, driven by robust demand for utility vehicles. Passenger car sales fell 4.5 percent, from 3,94,553 to 3,76,772, while SUV sales increased from 7,01,212 to 7,48,509 units.

On the two-wheeler front, scooter sales increased by 12.1%, while motorcycle and moped sales fell 3.5% and 10.8%, respectively. Total two-wheeler sales amounted at 45,67,762 units, up 1.4% year on year.

Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales increased 3.9% in the fourth quarter of FY2025, while three-wheeler sales rose 7.7%.

EV sales

SIAM also recorded significant improvements in EV sales in the country throughout the fiscal year. Cumulative EV sales reached 19.7 lakh units in FY2025, representing a 16.9 percent increase over FY2024. During the fiscal year, the number of electric passenger vehicles registered surpassed one lakh, with an 18.2 percent increase. Registrations for electric two-wheelers increased by 21.2% to 11.5 lakh units, while sales of electric three-wheelers increased by 10.5% to 7 lakh units.
