India hands over 125 Mahindra SUVs to Sri Lanka Police

The Indian High Commission in Colombo recently handed over 125 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs to the Sri Lankan Police in an effort to assist the neighbouring country during its crisis. The first of 500 Scorpio Classic SUVs that India promised Sri Lanka under an existing line of credit, the 125 Scorpio Classic SUVs that were delivered.

The Indian High Commission’s Twitter account posted pictures of the handover. The ceremonial handing over of the key to Sri Lankan officials is seen being completed by the official dignitaries. Given that the older generation continues to enjoy significant demand across numerous markets, the move is also consistent with Mahindra’s plans to export the Scorpio Classic to those markets.

With minor changes, domestic sales of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic started earlier this year. The SUV is additionally exported to Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and South Africa. In the near future, it might also travel to Australia and other nations in Africa. Given that the new Scorpio-N is significantly more expensive, the Scorpio Classic succeeds in being a more cost-effective substitute and performs admirably in price-sensitive markets.

The Scorpio Classic’s interior has been updated with features like a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new black and beige interior, a leatherette wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and the choice of captain seats in the second row. The Scorpio Classic is only available in two variants. On the base trim, the final row offers either a bench seat facing the front or side passengers. The Scorpio Classic’s 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine, which produces 130 bhp and 300 Nm of maximum torque and is typically paired with a 6-speed gearbox, provides the vehicle’s power. There is no 4×4 available and only the rear wheels receive power.
