The global automotive safety agency has examined multiple models across various segments as part of its Safer Cars for India programme. The project had a significant impact on Indian shoppers’ purchasing habits. Customers now want their automobiles to be safer, as well as have a variety of innovative connectivity options and an appealing look. The top five SUVs in India that received a five-star safety rating in Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash tests are detailed below.
The list includes 2 Tata SUVs (Punch and Nexon) and 3 Mahindra SUVs (XUV300, XUV700 and Thar).

1. Tata Punch
In October 2021, Tata’s new small SUV, the Punch, was subjected to a crash test by Global NCAP. For adult occupant protection, the vehicle received a complete 5-star rating, while for kid occupant protection, it received a 4-star rating. It received 16.45 out of 17 points for the former and 40.89 out of 49 points for the latter. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, brake sway control, Isofix child seat mounts, high speed alert, and seatbelt reminder are among the SUV’s safety features.

2. Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon is the brand’s first model to obtain a 5-star rating from Global NCAP, as well as India’s first. Both the driver and the front passenger had seat belt reminders on the test model. It met the UN95 side impact protection requirements and passed the side-impact test because to this feature. It received a score of 16.06 pints out of 17 for adult occupant protection, while the 18-month-old child-test dummy received good protection. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, front seatbelt reminder, all-disc brakes, and a passenger airbag deactivation button are included in the model’s safety features.

4. Mahindra XUV700
The Mahindra XUV700 received a 5-star safety rating for adult passenger protection and a 4-star safety rating for child occupant protection as part of the #SaferCarsForIndia programme. Dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and Isofix anchorages were all included in the tested model. The bodyshell and footwell were deemed to be stable.

5. Mahindra Thar
In November 2020, the new-generation Mahindra Thar was tested by Global NCAP. It’s the country’s safest off-road SUV. The tested model was equipped with basic safety features and met UN95 side impact standards. The off-road SUV received 12.52 out of 17 points for adult safety and 41.11 out of 49 points for child safety.
