The Infiniti Q60 is still relatively new, but it it seems that the luxury automaker is planning to retire it soon. If a recent report is to be believed, the two-door coupe will no longer be offered by Infiniti for reasons you won’t be surprised by.
If the rumour is accurate, the arguably attractive Q60 will only have one generation. Infiniti G models were replaced by the concept and nameplate known as the Q60 in 2015. Later, the production model was introduced in New York in 2016 for the 2017 model year.
Infiniti told Car and Driver that the rise in popularity of SUVs and crossovers in the luxury market was the cause of the Q60’s demise. It will also open the door for the Japanese brand’s entry into the EV market; one of these vehicles, along with a Nissan, was already hinted at earlier this year. Both of these vehicles will be produced at Nissan’s Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Mississippi.
By the end of 2022, the Infiniti Q60 will still be manufactured. However, sales of the luxury coupes are still anticipated to continue well into 2023, so if you’re interested, you still have time, though it will be limited.
The Infiniti Q60’s demise has been reported on previously. It was also stated in an earlier rumour from last year, though the cause of the discontinuation wasn’t made clear at the time. It’s significant to note that since the decade’s beginning, the Q60’s sales have been declining.
In the meantime, the Q50 would replace the Q60 as the only low-riding model offered by Infiniti by 2024 due to the Q60’s departure. However, the trend does not favour the nameplate.
