  • Kia plans to ramp up production at its Anantapur plant to meet demand
  • The Kia Carens MPV will be launched in India by early 2022
  • The Carens MPV will be manufactured at Kia’s Anantapur plant in AP

After the Seltos, Carnival, and Sonet, Kia India is planning to debut the Kia Carens MPV, which will be the brand’s fourth model in our market. The Carens will most likely be priced in the first quarter of 2022, maybe in February, according to the South Korean carmaker. Furthermore, to meet rising demand, the company is preparing to ramp up production and will shortly start a third shift at its Anantapur plant.

Kia, like other automakers, is experiencing supply issues, which are exacerbated by the ongoing semiconductor chip scarcity. To meet demand, the carmaker is presently importing semiconductors from the worldwide market for India. Kia, on the other hand, intends to source chips from India in the future.

Tae-Jin Park, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, spoke about the company’s EV intentions for India on the sidelines of the Carens’ global launch. “, he explained “There are two approaches: one is top-down, and the other is bottom-up, which involves volume cars. In the case of EVs, Tata, for example, began with volume cars produced locally. However, we are carefully considering which option is the best for us, based on the types of EV models we have and the types of leads we will receive from the Indian EV market. When we put them all together, we’re deciding which model to start with. The market scenario will determine whether it is top-down or bottom-up.”
