Kid Rock’s 2005 Ford GT Sells For $638,000 At Auction

Based on other auctions this year, this is a strong selling price for a GT.

At RM Sotheby’s auction in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a 2005 Ford GT that artist Kid Rock had owned since new sold for $638,000. Only 3,096 miles (4,983 kilometres) had been driven on the American supercar. The winning bidder also received a guitar signed by Kid Rock and a poster signed by the vehicle’s designer, Camilo Pardo.

According to the RM Sotheby’s website, Kid Rock’s GT was one of 669 Mark IV Red with painted white stripes from the 2005 model year. The rocker specified forged aluminium BBS wheels, red-painted brake callipers, and a McIntosh radio in addition to the painted stripes.

The GT is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 with 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) and 500 pound-feet (678 Newton-meters) of torque. The only transmission option was a six-speed manual. In less than 4.0 seconds, the car reached 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour).

Kid Rock’s automobile is “a very early production model” of the GT40, according to the RM Sotheby’s auction page, with a manufacture date of August 2004. To put it in context, the first supercar was delivered to a customer on August 4, 2004. Jon Shirley, a former Microsoft executive, was the buyer.

Whether it was the early manufacture date, low mileage, Kid Rock connection, or a mix of these elements, $638,000 is a good price for a first-generation Ford GT. So far in 2022, RM Sotheby’s has sold three more instances of the supercar. At the Amelia Island 2022 sale, a yellow 2006 model year automobile sold for $544,000. A silver 2005 unit sold for $538,500 at the same auction. At the same Fort Lauderdale auction as Kid Rock’s, a white 2005 GT sold for $437,250.

The current Ford GT is nearing the end of its production run. The final construction is expected to begin in December 2022. Before that, the Blue Oval is teasing a gold-bodied Holman Moody Heritage Edition.

There are suggestions that Ford will produce a limited number of GTs with additional power as a farewell to the model. There has been a lot of conjecture, as well as some spy images, about the vehicle’s development, but the automaker has yet to make an official statement.
