Land Rover Defender Rally Special Celebrates 60 Years Of James Bond

A stunt driver from multiple James Bond films will be behind the wheel.

In the North Wales leg of the 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge, a rally-ready Land Rover Defender 90 will compete in a special livery commemorating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise’s UK premiere. Mark Higgins is a three-time British Rally Champion and has appeared in the Bond films Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die as a stunt driver.

The P300 Ingenium engine produces 296 horsepower (221 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque in this Defender 90 rally car. Improved cooling for the engine and transmission, a sports exhaust, a full roll cage, and a roof spoiler are among the upgrades.

Modified subframes and new springs are part of the enhanced suspension. This Defender is equipped with Bowler’s 18-inch reinforced wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber.

The Bowler Defender Challenge is a 12-team, one-make challenge that operates as a feeder series for global rally-raid competitions.  The Rally North Wales will primarily take place on gravel.

Land Rover vehicles are frequently seen in James Bond films. Last year, to commemorate this link, the business released the Defender V8 Bond Edition to coincide with the release of No Time to Die. It had a black body and 22-inch wheels to match. Badging, puddle lamps, and the infotainment splash screen all had the 007 emblem.

Only 300 Defender V8 Bond Editions were produced by Land Rover. The asking price for this unique version in the United States was $114,600.

The Defender 130, which will include a real third row instead of the 5+2 arrangement found on the 110, is currently in the works. The model has been lengthened to accommodate the additional occupants. The powertrain options should be carried over from previous versions. The 130 is expected to make its debut in 2022.
