Made in India Supercars: Real & Concept

India has traditionally lacked a real home-grown supercar capable of competing with supercars from European automakers. However, some inspiring thoughts and designs have recently appeared on the scene, which have managed to keep that hope alive. Some of India’s native supercar pioneers are listed below.

1. Vazirani Shul

The Vazirani Shul, derived from the word ‘Trishul,’ is India’s first petrol-electric hybrid hypercar. The Shul is propelled by a turbine jet engine and four separate motors that drive each of the four wheels. The powertrain was created in partnership with the Sahara Force India Formula One racing team and a UK-based turbine manufacturer. The car is said to have a top speed of over 300 km/h and a time of 2.5-3.0 seconds from zero to 100 km/h.

2. Vazirani Ekonk

The Ekonk, Vazirani’s second hypercar, is a far more futuristic-looking car with an even more complex drivetrain under its skin than the Shul. The legendary word ‘Ek Onkar,’ which means ‘the one,’ inspired the design of this one-of-a-kind vehicle. It is the world’s first full-electric hypercar, and it lives up to its moniker. The automobile has two electric engines that generate 712 horsepower and weighs only 738 kg. The car’s peak speed is claimed to be 3009 km/h.

3. DC Avanti

The DC Avanti, which was India’s first-ever home-grown supercar, died a gradual death and is no longer available in the country. When it was first previewed, though, there were a lot of expectations placed on it. The DC Avanti’s low slung posture and sharp form drew attention, but the average fit and finish levels and drab cabin design detracted from the entire experience. The engine was a 2.0-litre Renault petrol engine that produced 250 PS and 340 Nm of torque.

4. DC TCA

With its first supercar, the Avanti, DC had learned a lot. All of these insights were incorporated into the development of the TCA, the next supercar. At the 2018 Auto Show, the automobile had its public premiere. The DC TCA looked considerably sharper and premium than the Avanti, with an all-new design that appeared to be influenced by Ferrari LaFerrari and Pagani Zonda. It even came with a more powerful 3.8-liter V6 engine with 320 PS of maximum power. The DC TCA, on the other hand, was never put into production.

5. Motormind Hyperion

If you are impressed by the likes of cars like Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow, you will surely appreciate the Motormind Hyperion. This unique car was first previewed at the 2016 Auto Expo by Shahid Haq of Motormind Design.

The car was destined to go into production as a made-to-order only car. With minimal but aggressive-looking bodywork all around, the Motormind Hyperion featured a rear-mounted V6 petrol engine from the Hyundai Sonata.

6. Tata RaceMo

The Tata Racemo was set to be the world’s first proper series production sports vehicle from a major automaker. The automobile made its public premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo, where its tiny and futuristic design wowed attendees. The vehicle included Microsoft’s in-cabin connectivity technologies as well as a powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a maximum power output of 186 bhp and torque output of 210 Nm.
