In recent times, we’ve seen the internet flood with spy shots of a new SUV from Mahindra. Called W601 in development, this SUV has been grabbing the attention of many people even before launching. Pronounced as ‘XUV Seven Double Oh’, this SUV will be the next model in the XUV range. Mahindra has also said that it will temporarily disable XUV500 after the launch of XUV700. Mahindra has confirmed that both petrol & diesel engines will be offered along with automatic options. There is also going to be an all-wheel-drive variant. The chief of global product development at M&M Ltd said that there will be some segment-first features in the all-new XUV700. The SUV will be built at the manufacturing facility in Chakan in Maharashtra. It is slated to launch sometime in the second quarter of FY2022.
What the Spy shots say about XUV700
The recent spy shots have revealed that the new model will resemble the XUV500 but with a slightly tweaked look. There is also going to be segment-first Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The SUV will also get a panoramic sunroof & two large horizontal screens with one being an infotainment touchscreen and the other being the digital cluster. Better and more powerful versions of the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines (present in the new Mahindra Thar) are expected to be offered. These will be mated with the same six-speed manual & torque converter automatic gearbox options.
What else do we know?
The SUV will be positioned below the company’s current flagship Alturas G4 SUV. Moreover, Mahindra has answered a fan by tweeting that the existing XUV500 will be ‘temporarily discontinued’ after the launch of XUV700. Other than ADAS, the SUV is expected to come with at least six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, all-wheel disc brakes and more. It will come with full-LED headlights, LED DRLs, a new large grille, sporty alloy wheels and new horizontally mounted LED taillamps. The SUV will also come with new flush-fitting door handles. Upon launch, it will compete with the likes of Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. The Launch is expected in the festive season.
