In 2015, Maruti Suzuki debuted the S-Cross crossover in India. It was the company’s first premium dealership network offering. The Maruti S-Cross failed to create volumes for the Indo-Japanese automaker despite various marketing campaigns and regular revisions.
According to a recent media report, Maruti Suzuki has decided to withdraw the S-Cross crossover from the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have teamed up to develop a new mid-sized SUV to replace the S-Cross. Suzuki has already launched the new-generation S-Cross in a few international countries for those who are unaware.

The new Maruti YFG sports utility vehicle is expected to debut before the end of the year, most likely around Diwali 2022. The Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun will all be competitors for the new SUV.
Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1.65 lakh S-Cross crossovers in the Indian market since 2015, an average of 2,000 units each month. Hyundai, on the other hand, has sold over 7 lakh Cretas, an average of over 8,000 every month.
Initially, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross was available with two diesel engine options: a 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre. Fiat provided both of the engines. MSIL removed the S-Cross 1.6L version off the market because to low demand. Later, the business released the S-Cross petrol variant, which is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a mild hybrid system.
The new mid-size SUV is said to be built on Toyota’s TNGA-B or DNGA platform, which is significantly localised. The SUV will be built at Toyota’s bidadi factory. During the holiday season, Toyota will release its version of the YFG (codenamed D22).

The new Maruti Suzuki YFG mid-sized SUV is expected to be powered by a Toyota-sourced’strong hybrid’ petrol engine. A petrol engine will be combined with a tiny battery as the powertrain. It will allow the new mid-sized SUV to go short distances entirely on electric power. As a result, the Maruti YFG will have a higher fuel efficiency than its petrol cousin.
