Mercedes Starts Production Of All Electric EQS Suv In Alabama

Mercedes-Benz will begin the production of the fully-electric EQE electric SUV later this year.

Mercedes-Benz has started the production of the all-electric EQS SUV at its North American vehicle factory. Mercedes-Benz shared that starting the production of the EQS electric SUV at this location is an important step for its global initiative in which the premium automaker aims to produce eight all-electric vehicles at seven sites on three continents this year.

The EQE electric SUV will be manufactured by Mercedes later this year. The EQS SUV is manufactured at the Tuscaloosa plant, which employs cutting-edge digital, sustainable, efficient, and flexible production methods and follows the blueprint of the automaker’s Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany.

“With the new EQS SUV joining our production portfolio of all-electric Mercedes-EQ models, we reached another important milestone in our strategy to go all-electric by the end of the decade – wherever market conditions allow,” said Jorg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production and Supply Chain.” Michael Goebel, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz US International (MBUSI), stated that the factory team is proud that the first all-electric Mercedes EQS and its battery are manufactured in Alabama. “We have a highly skilled and motivated team that has delivered on the successful launch of the new EQS SUV.” “Goebel added.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is the third model series, and the EV is built on electric vehicle architecture. The electric vehicle is equipped with electric motors that respond to 4MATIC all-wheel drive, as well as an intelligent off-road driving mode. The EQS SUV’s battery is built on the same modular architecture as the EQS and EQE sedans. The Mercedes EQS SUV can also handle light terrain with ease.
