If launched in India, MG Marvel X could be priced upwards of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom)
When the MG Motor 2021 Marvel R electric SUV was recently crash tested at Euro NCAP, it received a remarkable 4-star safety rating. The Marvel R is a worldwide version of the Roewe electric SUV that is offered in China. For the record, SAIC, a Chinese carmaker, owns MG Motor.
The battery-powered SUV is scheduled to arrive in India in the coming months and will most likely be marketed as the ‘Marvel X.’ It was even shown at the previous Auto Expo in India as a pre-production prototype of MG’s Vision E Concept.
MG Marvel R- Euro NCAP tests
When it is marketed in India, the SUV will be positioned as a luxury electric SUV above the ZS EV, as it was in China earlier this year. The SUV is regarded to be far more sophisticated than the ZS EV, and it comes with an extensive list of safety measures that helped it get a high safety rating. With a weight of 1840kg, the SUV was able to achieve an Adult Occupant Protection of 80% and a Child Occupant Protection of 75%, respectively.
When it comes to the technicalities of the crash test, the Marvel R’s passenger compartment stayed stable in the frontal offset test. Both the driver’s and passenger’s knees and femurs were well protected. However, based on chest compression data, the driver’s chest protection was assessed as minimal. Furthermore, the dashboard’s construction put people of various sizes at danger of damage.
List of Safety Features in Marvel R
With the exception of the rear passenger’s pelvis, Marvel R provided acceptable or good protection to all essential body parts of the passengers in the full-width rigid barrier test. In the side barrier test, the electric SUV performed admirably, with adequate protection of all vital body areas. In this test, Marvel R received the highest score.
In terms of safety features, the Marvel R has a sophisticated eCall system that warns emergency services if the car is involved in an accident. It also has an active braking system that helps to reduce secondary impacts in the event of a collision. An IP67 battery with an anti-intrusion protection level and six high-voltage circuit safety management schemes are among the other significant safety features on offer.
Powertrain Specs
Three electric motors power the Marvel R, one on the front axle and two on the back. The motors are powered by a 70-kilowatt-hour battery pack, resulting in a combined output of 288 horsepower and 665 Nm of torque. According to the WLTP cycle, the powertrain has a range of little over 400 kilometres on a single charge.
In terms of performance, the Marvel R can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in just 4.8 seconds. The electric SUV’s top speed has been electrically limited to 180 kilometres per hour. The battery can be recharged from 0 to 80 percent in about 40 minutes when connected to a fast charger.
