The fifth-gen Polo was launched in India back in 2010. And after a decade of its launch it stays on sale in India. The fifth-gen Polo is currently priced for a range of Rs. 6 Lakh to 10 Lakh. Next-gen Polo for India

Back in 2017, Volkswagen revealed it Sixth-gen Polo in the Global markets. Which was based on the old PQ25 platform. However the seventh-gen Polo will be based on the company’s modular platform, MQB-A0. The MQB-A0 platform is already localised by the company in India for their upcoming SUVs likewise the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. Moreover the VW group needs to alter the design to keep the new polo under 4 metres. As a result making it a lot pricier than it’s current guise.

Though the fifth-gen hatchback’s driving dynamics and premium build quality helps it to be a popular choice in India for a couple more years. However increased proportions, improved safety and premium features may attract customers in the future. The customer preference in India has shifted towards the compact SUVs and therefore the company is focused on positioning themselves in the same segment. Above all increasing the price range, VW India may get enough room to bring new polo for Indian market. With this work cut out the company will need more two-three years to bring an updated Polo for our market.


Currently this segment is ruled by Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20. The current gen Polo got a new 110PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as part of the BS6 update in 2020. It has been a people’s favourite hatchback since years. There has been no final decision made by Volkswagen India on the future of Polo in India. But a new-gen model could be launched by late-2022 or early-2023.
