The NUR-E 75 was formally unveiled as a big statement of purpose for Pakistan’s automotive industry, which has hitherto been very hesitant in embracing battery-powered mobility solutions. It is hailed as the nation’s first locally built and manufactured electric vehicle (EV). The NUR-E 75 will enter the local market by the end of 2024 as a result of collaboration between a US-based non-profit organisation named DICE Foundation, Pakistani colleges, and the corporate sector here.
The NUR-E 75 was on display in Pakistan last month during the nation’s 75th Independence Day celebrations. According to sources, Sir Syed University of Engineering designed the chargers for it while NED University of Engineering and Technology built the battery pack. National College of Arts finalised the outside design of it.
The EV sports a top speed of 120 kmph and a range of more than 200 kilometres. It can be fully recharged using a 220V connection in around eight hours. It is a hatchback with five doors and room for up to five people. The NUR-E 75’s most notable feature, however, is that every one of its parts was created in the nation.
According to those involved in the creation of the NUR-E 75, this electric vehicle will enable the general public to access battery-powered mobility options and reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported cars and foreign fuel sources. At the launch, it was boasted that Pakistan would soon possess the same proficiency in domestic EV development as several western nations do at the moment. Although the NUR-E 75 hatchback is the main emphasis right now, plans are also underway for an all-electric sedan and electric SUVs.
Pakistan is progressively considering EVs for their potential to provide both economic and environmental benefits. Although there are now a number of brands offering their respective EVs here, the market is still quite modest.
