Polestar has announced that build slot reservations for its 6 LA Concept are now fully booked. Polestar’s all-electric roadster will not be available until 2026, and production will be limited to 500 units. Reserved build slots are not sales, but they do indicate interest in the proposed EV.

Within a week of the car’s August 16 production announcement, all 500 build slots were reserved. According to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, the combination of the roadster body style and all-electric powertrain “appeals to even the most die-hard petrolheads.” Polestar plans to open reservation books for regular versions of the Polestar 6 later this year due to the high level of interest. This version will arrive after the initial run of 500 LA Concept models.

The Polestar 6 will be built on the same platform as the Polestar 5, utilising the brand’s 800-volt EV architecture and bespoke aluminium platform. The dual-motor powertrain can produce up to 884 horsepower (650 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque, which is impressive for any car. The EV could reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometres per hour) in 3.2 seconds. It may also have a top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 kph).

The LA Concept edition models will feature the concept’s distinctive 21-inch wheels, Sky blue exterior paint, and a light leather-filled interior. The concept begins with an autonomous drone, but we doubt it will survive to become a production model.

The overwhelming response from the press and consumers to the O2 Concept prompted Polestar to approve it for production, despite the CEO’s earlier concerns about turning the concept into a production vehicle. There will be challenges ahead, but the EV will not be available for another four years.

The Polestar 6 will be one of several new EVs to join the Polestar lineup in the coming years. The Polestar 3, an all-electric performance SUV, will be available in October. The Polestar 4 SUV coupe will be available in 2023, followed by the Polestar 5 based on the Precept concept in 2024.
