Richard Hammond Buys Back Jaguar XJR He Regrets Selling Before

Richard Hammond has owned several cars in the past as an automotive journalist and celebrity host. The shortest of the Grand Tour trio has a penchant for classic cars, so it’s understandable that his previous ownership history includes many vintage vehicles.

Unlike the previous collection of cars he sold, Hammond has admitted that he regrets selling the Jaguar XJR, specifically a black 1999 model. Powered by a supercharged 4.0-liter V8 and comes in a tasteful exterior package, we understand why Hammond adores this British sedan.

According to him, it was sold to him by Top Gear writer Richard Porter. He owned it for several years before selling it due to a lack of space, which turned out to be an instant regret.

Fortunately, that particular Jaguar XJR was listed for sale by Absolute Classic Cars. It was even advertised as Hammond’s old car, and only had one owner after the celebrity car host, so just imagine the situation the dealer was in when Hammond called to actually buy the car.

The video above captured Hammond’s reaction as he reconnected with his old car. You could see his face as memories flooded back as he sat in the driver’s seat.

After driving away, Hammond returned the Jaguar XJR to the Smallest Cog and began working on the sedan’s restoration. He wanted it restored to its original pristine and crisp condition, despite the fact that it had been sitting for over 20 years. That restoration work would be simple. (Thegamedial.com)

That remains to be seen in the coming weeks or months, but we are eager to see the finished product on this XJR. To say the least, it’s a work of art, and Hammond deserves to have it back.
