Shelby American has created a production version of one of its EXP or experimental cars for the first time. The Shelby GT500 Code Red is the company’s first twin-turbo limited edition vehicle.
Aside from the visual differences between the Code Red and the standard Shelby GT500, the Code Red is powered by a beefed-up 5.2-liter V8 with high-performance components, boosted by a premium intercooled twin-turbo system, new fuel system, and engine management system, among other things.
When using 93 octane fuel, all of these factors contribute to a final output of over 1,000 horsepower (746 kilowatts) and 780 pound-feet (1,058 Newton-meters) of torque. With E85 Ethanol, the car can produce up to 1,300 hp (969 kW) and 1,000 lb-ft (1,356 Nm) of pull.

Shelby American also added the widebody package, as well as new wheels, tyres, axles, suspension tuning, interior, badges, carbon fibre hood, and more.
Shelby American hasn’t made an experimental GT500 Code Red for the first time. The company created a twin-turbo Code Red in 2008 with the assistance of Nelson’s Racing Engines, which re-engineered the 5.4-liter V8. However, due to its high cost and extreme nature, it was never produced, making the car unviable for production. Shelby stated that “many of the problems we faced 14 years ago no longer exist.”
Shelby American produced four experimental cars over the course of 60 years, including the 2008 GT500 Code Red. The 1968 Green Hornet, 1967 Super Snake, and 1967 Little Red were the other three. All of these vehicles serve as “test beds for innovation,” and one has gone into production for the first time due to high demand.
