In the first phase, Volkswagen India has sent out a shipment of 3,000 Virtus cars to Mexico from the port of Mumbai.

Volkswagen India has begun exporting the locally built Virtus sedan, which has joined the Taigun as part of the MQB-A0-IN platform vehicles that will be exported to other countries. In the first phase, the automaker shipped 3,000 Virtus vehicles to Mexico from the port of Mumbai. The sedan is produced at the Group’s Chakan facility in Maharashtra as part of the brand’s India 2.0 campaign.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) is responsible for the management of the five Volkswagen Group brands in India: Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Cars are exported by the Group to 44 countries in South America, Central America, Africa, India – Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and the Caribbean region.

SAVWIPL began its export programme from India in 2011, with 6,256 locally built Volkswagen Ventos for the South African market. Since then, the company’s export market has grown, as have the models it exports. The Group currently has a presence in 44 countries across South America, Central America, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the Caribbean region. The Group exported over 550,000 cars until the end of June 2022, with Mexico being the largest export market, followed by South Africa, Central American countries (Columbia, Ecuador, Argentina), and ASEAN countries. “The increase in our export numbers demonstrates the success of the India 2.0 programme.” It also demonstrates India’s engineering prowess on a global scale,” said Piyush Arora, Managing Director of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.

Volkswagen recently released the Taigun Anniversary Edition to commemorate the car’s first year in the country. In addition to the existing Curcuma Yellow and Wild Cherry Red colour options, the Volkswagen Taigun Anniversary Edition now comes in Rising Blue. The automaker claims that this special edition Taigun will be available at 152 OEM dealerships across India.
