It wears special aesthetic upgrades and could wield dual electric motors with over 400 combined horsepower.
Smart and Brabus are connected historically. In the past twenty years, the German tuner has contributed to the development of some of the most desirable ultracompact vehicles available, and this trend will continue in the years to come.
Nowadays, Smart has close ties to both Mercedes-Benz and the Chinese company Geely, but Brabus is still offering an improved model of the small electric crossover.
The Smart #1 by Brabus maintains the original model’s crisp, curved lines while sporting a sharp, sporty appearance. Small red inserts on the door profiles and bumpers, as well as a red roof spoiler, help to visually identify the modified model.
New air intakes have been added to the bumpers, and the 19-inch alloy wheels stand out at the corners. The seams of the seats, the details of the dashboard, and the headrests are all red, adding to the overall redness of the interior. Being a Brabus, the interior is fully covered in leather, microfiber, and Alcantara. Aluminum pedals are also at your feet.
Four-Wheel Drive & Extra Power
Something rumoured by Chinese media but not yet confirmed could be the big news. Although no technical details have been provided, the Smart #1 modified by Brabus may have two electric motors for all-wheel drive. Additionally, the engine’s combined output could reach 434 horsepower (324 kilowatts). That would obviously be a significant improvement over the current model, which is already quick with 268 horsepower (200 kW) driving only the rear wheels.
A Smart #1 of this size with such a power upgrade and all-wheel drive would undoubtedly produce some impressive performance numbers. Nothing has been officially announced, so we’re left to speculate about how fast this hot EV hatchback might be. We anticipate Brabus to upgrade the suspension and brakes in accordance, but a trade-off for increased performance could be a reduction in range. We’ll just have to wait until the whole picture is revealed.
How soon will that occur? On August 26, the vehicle will make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. If and when this model will be available in Europe or other markets are unknown.
