Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Announced
Tata Motors stated to carandbike.com in January 2020 that the tata Altroz EV will most definitely be introduced by mid-2021. However, since then, a pandemic and a slew of other factors have conspired to extend the wait for the electric Altroz’s arrival. On the sidelines of Tata Motors’ presentation of iCNG goods, we chatted with the company’s senior executive to learn more about the reasons behind the Tata Altroz EV’s delay and when we can expect it to arrive in India.
Delayed Due To Changing Customer Expectations
Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, told a car portal, “Ever since we showcased the Tata Altroz EV at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, there was a certain concept that we wanted to drive. But over a period, we realized that that contingent needs to be slightly different and that’s the reason for delay.”
He continued, “Otherwise we had set within two years, we are going to bring that up, but a lot of things have changed. The expectation of customers also changed, so after a commitment to the market and we’ll bring it at the right time.”
EV Lineup Of The Company
Tata Motors now offers the Tata Nexon EV and the Tata Tigor EV as electric vehicles. The Tata Altroz EV will be based on the company’s new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) chassis and will include Ziptron powertrain technology. While the technical specifications have yet to be revealed, Tata Motors has confirmed that all future EVs powered by Ziptron technology will have a minimum range of 250 kilometres on a single charge and will be equipped with a lithium-ion battery that is IP-67 certified and backed by an 8-year warranty.
