Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao Extends Helping Hand To Tesla
Telangana Industry and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao recently invited Tesla CEO Elon Musk to set up shop in the state via Twitter. The minister stated that the Telangana state government is willing to collaborate with Tesla to solve the company’s problems. The minister’s invitation comes a day after Musk responded to a Tweet by adding that the company is still working with the Indian government on a number of issues.
Minister KTR Announced On Twitter
KT Rama Rao said on Twitter, “Hey Elon, I am the Industry & Commerce Minister of Telangana state in India. Will be happy to partner Tesla in working through the challenges to set shop in India/Telangana. Our state is a champion in sustainability initiatives & a top notch business destination in India.” Musk was replying to a Twitter user, who asked: “Yo @elonmusk any further update as to when Tesla’s will launch in India? They’re pretty awesome and deserve to be in every corner of the world!”. KTR is Telangana Chief Minister KC Rao’s son. He is the Minister of IT and UD, as well as managing the industry and commerce portfolios.Telangana already has an electric vehicle policy in place, as well as a 200-acre EV park SEZ, and USA EV giant ‘Triton’ just announced a Rs 2,100-crore investment in the state.
The EV maker has been lobbying the Indian government to reduce import duty on electric vehicles to 40 per cent, saying that this step would make EVs more affordable and boost sales. The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Ministry of Finance earlier had asked Tesla to increase localisation and share ramp-up plans along with considering local assembly of cars, before seeking any relief from the government. However, the company hasn’t given any commitments or assurance regarding the same.
