The facelifted version of Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno will be available soon. However, sales of the current model continue to be profitable for the automaker. Maruti sold 14,458 Balenos last month, compared to just 9,931 the month before. Baleno, on the other hand, has seen a drop in year-over-year sales. Maruti sold 18,030 units of the premium hatchback in December 2020.

4. Tata Nexon

Tata Motor’s ascension to second place in India’s vehicle market, ahead of Hyundai Motor, has been a hot topic in the industry. Tata’s success last month can be credited in large part to its subcompact SUV Nexon. In December, Tata sold 12,899 Nexon units, the most it had ever sold. Nexon’s strong sales have lifted the SUV to fourth place on the list. In November, Tata sold 9,831 Nexon devices, compared to only 6,835 in December 2020.

5. Maruti Ertiga

Ahead of a probable redesign later this year, Maruti’s three-row MPV Ertiga continues to be a good performer. Last month, Maruti sold 11,840 Ertigas, up from 9,177 units sold the previous year in the same month. It’s also a significant increase over November of previous year, when Maruti sold 8,752 Ertigas.

6. Maruti Alto

In December, Maruti’s oldest surviving model, the Alto, fell a few spots. With 11,170 units sold last month, the Alto was ranked sixth among India’s best-selling automobiles. When compared to Maruti’s December 2020 sales of 18,140 units, the Alto has seen a considerable drop in sales. It’s also fewer than the 13,812 units sold by Maruti in November of last year.

8. Hyundai Venue

The list, which now includes the name of Hyundai’s flagship compact SUV Creta, reveals the company’s sales decline. Hyundai’s only consolation is that the Venue has advanced a few spots to number 8 on the list, beating Maruti’s sub-compact SUV Brezza. Last month, Hyundai sold 10,360 Venues, down from 12,313 in December 2020.

9. Maruti Vitara Brezza

Later this year, Maruti’s subcompact SUV Brezza will get a much-needed update. However, with 9,531 units sold last month, it remains a top favourite among Indian shoppers. Maruti sold 12,251 units of the SUV in December 2020, compared to 10,760 units of the Brezza in the previous month.

10. Maruti Eeco

The Eeco utility passenger van from Maruti Suzuki rounds out the top ten cars sold in India. Maruti sold 9,165 Eecos in December 2020, compared to 11,215 in December 2019. Maruti had sold 9,571 units of the vehicle in the preceding month.
