Toyota Frontlander will be based on the recently unveiled Corolla Cross SUV

Toyota officially teased it’s upcoming Toyota Frontlander ahead of its global debut. This upcoming SUV will probably similar to recently launched Corolla Cross SUV which is now available in the overseas market. New Toyota Frontlander will firstly enter into to Chinese automarket, followed by other markets. 

  • Expected to come with multiple petrol-hybrid powertrain options
  • Will sit below the popular RAV4 SUV globally

Toyota Frontlander: Details ? 

Toyota introducing this SUV with partnering Chinese Auto Giant GAC. After launch Toyota Frontlander SUV will sits below the RAV4. The JV already sells a few Toyota models and SUVs like the Wildlander and Crown Klugger, which are essentially twins of the RAV4 and Highlander SUVs sold globally.

This upcoming SUV is going to be a completely similar Corolla Cross which is currently on sale in Japanese Auto Market. About design its bit different compared to model which sold in ASEAN markets and the United States. The side profile of the Frontlander and Corolla Cross SUVs are nearly identical,but, the headlamps, front grille and bumper and mildly altered rear bumper are differenton the former.

New Toyota Frontlander SUV sits on Toyota’s TNGA modular platform that underpins a range of sedans and SUVs globally. Inside powerhouse, a 1.8-litre petrol with hybrid tech will be the sole engine on offer along with AWD as standard on most variants. 

Toyota Frontlander: India? 

Currently, Toyota has no as such plan with right hand drive countries, they have only finalised for left hand drive countries only, but they sold their Corolla Cross in Thailand market. Probably India didn’t get this SUV too but RAV4 spotted testing quite often.  Additionally, the Fortuner is also expected to see a variant rejig soon.
