VinFast Launches Usage-Based Battery Leasing For VF 8 And VF 9 Models

VinFast, a Vietnamese carmaker, has disclosed pricing for its battery lease program in the United States, as well as precise pricing for its completely electric SUVs, the VF 8 and VF 9. VinFast will sell its models separately from the batteries, which will be available in two different subscription options based on consumption.

Starting with the battery leasing choices, the Flexible plan costs $35 per month for the VF 8 and $44 per month for the VF 9, and allows for up to 310 miles per month of travel. Customers who drive more than that amount will be charged $0.11 per mile for the VF 8 and $0.15 per mile for the VF 9.

The Fixed plan, which offers an unlimited range and costs $110 for the VF 8 and $160 for the VF 9, is for those who travel frequently and dislike limits. VinFast is providing the Fixed plan as a guaranteed lifetime membership cost that will be immediately transferred to the future owner of the car if the original buyer decides to sell it as a welcome present to early customers who make reservations and deposits in 2022. There are certain advantages to leasing a battery rather than purchasing one with the automobile. VinFast offers a lifetime battery guarantee, which covers all maintenance and repair charges as well as the cost of replacing the battery if its capacity falls below 70%. According to the carmaker, the present battery subscription strategy will be extended through the end of 2023. It then intends to transition to a 50-50 owning-leasing model.

Moving on to the cars themselves, the VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 are the first in a series of entirely electric SUVs from VinFast. With the exception of long-range VF 9 models, which will arrive in 2023, they are slated to arrive in US dealerships in the second part of the year.

The models will be offered in two versions: Eco and Plus, with two battery outputs to choose from. The VF 8 has a range of 248–292 miles while the VF 9 has a range of 262–369 miles, depending on the specifications. The cost of the batteries is not included in the pricing because they are leased after the car is purchased.

VF 8 Eco – $40,700 / $41,000
VF 8 Plus – $47,700 / $48,000
VF 9 Eco – $55,500 / $56,000
VF 9 Plus – $60,500 / $61,000

VinFast will provide trips to the VF 8 during the 2022 New York International Auto Show, allowing potential buyers to sample the Smart Services package that will be provided alongside its cars. VinFast has announced the opening of its own electric car manufacturing factory in North Carolina, with the first vehicles expected to roll off the line in 2024.
