Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo, a major social media platform in China, to praise Tesla and Tesla’s FSD.
The Chinese company started out as a smartphone maker but is now also becoming a serious automaker.
And yet, Jun had great things to say about Tesla, one of the company’s main rivals.
Even though some people are saying he did it for a very specific reason.
What Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said
Tesla recently completed its first autonomous delivery, something the company had been trying to achieve for a while.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared his thoughts about it on Weibo, a social network in China, and what he had to say was interesting.
“Tesla is indeed amazing. It has led industry trends in many areas, especially FSD (Full Self-Driving). We still have a lot to learn,” he wrote.

His words did the rounds across several media platforms, including X, and what people had to say about it was equally interesting.
Because some said Jun is genuinely acknowledging Tesla’s FSD, while others are pointing out that this seems to be a bit of a tactic, as Jun is doing with everyone else.
Not long ago, he praised NIO’s battery-swapping technology, and also congratulated Great Wall Motor, another major Chinese automakers, on its 35th anniversary.

Xiaomi vs Tesla, who’s winning?
Tesla is still in the lead when it comes to global sales of electric vehicles, but Xiaomi is catching up quite fast.
After the record-breaking SU7, a sedan, Xiaomi also unveiled the YU7, a direct Model Y rival that received over 300,000 orders in three minutes.
Xiaomi is still not available in the U.S., but it’ll likely be available in Europe and other markets soon, which could be a bit of a headache for the American automaker, who is already facing fierce competition from other rivals.
BYD, for example, has overtaken Tesla as the biggest EV distributor in Europe and the UK, and they aren’t slowing down.
