Yamaha India plans to expand its current scooter lineup by introducing a new series of 125cc to 155cc scooters. Within the next three years, the company hopes to treble its market share in India. Mr Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India, stated in a recent interview that the company intends to launch the NMax 155 maxi scooter to India.

According to Mr Chihana, they first presented the Aerox 155 in India to see how Indian buyers reacted to it and if there was a desire for a scooter in this sector with larger baggage capacity or touring capability. Despite the fact that Aerox is only available in Yamaha’s high-end Blue Square boutiques, demand outnumbers supply. The two-wheeler now plans to sell the Aerox in all of its stores across the country.

The Aerox 155, on the other hand, is a hit in India, and the NMax 155 can follow in its footsteps by incorporating several key characteristics. The NMax 155 maxi scooter has a larger gasoline tank as well as more cargo space. Despite this, the luggage capacities of the Aerox and NMax are equal, with the exception that the NMax has a big 39-litre optional top box. The sole disadvantage is the ground clearance of the NMax, which varies between 125mm and 135mm, whilst the Aerox has a touch more at 145mm.

The scooter is powered by the same 155cc VVA-equipped, liquid-cooled engine that powers the R15 and Aerox. The NMax 155 has 13-inch wheels while the Aerox has 14-inch wheels, which is a significant difference between the two. This could improve handling by allowing for lighter steering. With all of the necessary components in place, the NMax 155 has a good chance of making it to the Indian scooter market.
