Yamaha RX100 Could Make Comeback In India – Officials

The Yamaha RX100, one of the most iconic motorcycles ever sold in India, may return, albeit in a completely new form. According to a report in the Hindu Businessline, Yamaha Motor India chairman Eishin Chihana has stated that the 2-wheeler manufacturer intends to give the iconic nameplate to a new model.

“We want to bring back the RX100 brand, but there are two issues: RX100 is a two-stroke engine, and putting a BS6 engine in it is currently impossible.” However, naming a new model is definitely on the agenda. However, once we put the RX100 on a brand/aspiring model… the reincarnation with modern styling/flavor is a big challenge,” Eishin Chihana, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India, told BusinessLine. When asked about a possible launch date, Chihana stated that it would be after 2026. This is due to the company’s current plans to release additional models until 2026. “We have a plan, but we should not use the RX100 name lightly… it will tarnish the image.” The RX100 cannot be a hasty decision… it must be an impactful package with a powerful engine and design.”

“From a global standpoint, Yamaha in India is expected to overtake Indonesia as the second largest export hub.” Indonesia currently exports to 55-60 countries. (mydelta8store.com) “We want to expand the number of destinations from the Indian hub, whether in the United States, Europe, or Japan,” Chihana added. Yamaha Motor India currently exports around 3 lakh two-wheelers per year, which is less than 50% of the exports from Yamaha Indonesia.

The Yamaha RX100 was introduced in India in 1985 and remained in production until 1996. The motorcycle achieved cult status and is still in high demand on the used market. Many people continue to keep the motorcycle in pristine condition, demonstrating the 2-stroke pocket rocket’s high value.
