The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) will be launched by the Centre on Tuesday, with the goal of increasing road safety by upgrading the safety requirements of motor vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. According to an official release, “the program aims to provide a tool to car customers to make a comparative assessment of crash safety of motor vehicles available on the market.”
The Indian automobile industry is expanding, and one important purchase criterion for buyers is a car’s safety rating. Crash test safety ratings are assigned by organizations such as Global NCAP, Euro NCAP, Latin NCAP, and ASEAN NCAP. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, is now planning to launch Bharat NCAP on August 22nd, 2023, to evaluate the safety of Indian vehicles at home. Here’s all you need to know:
Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and roads, will start the initiative.
“Potential car customers can refer to these star ratings to compare the safety standards of different vehicles and accordingly make their purchase decision,” the statement said.
Car manufacturers can voluntarily volunteer their cars to be examined in accordance with Automotive Industry Standard 197 under this initiative. The cars will be given star ratings for adult and kid occupants based on their performance in the testing.
Car makers will be encouraged to meet customer demands as the demand for safer vehicles grows. It is also believed that when safety standards improve, Indian automobiles would be able to compete better in the global market. This would improve the export potential of domestic automakers while also increasing the country’s safety-conscious car market.
