Carlos Tavares revealed Stellantis’ future plans at the Dare Forward 2030 presentation a few months ago, and one model stood out in terms of Jeep. It is a compact SUV aimed at global volume sales and, more importantly, powered by electricity. The underpinnings of the five-seater will be leveraged across the group to achieve economies of scale.
A recent set of spy photos revealed the Jeep small electric SUV’s production identity. It is similar to the Renegade, but the styling elements are more akin to the Compass. Signature design elements such as the front grille, tall pillars that allow for a boxy appearance, a rear end similar to the Compass, and so on can be clearly seen.
Due to its electric nature, the seven vertical grille slats are eliminated in favour of a closed-off setup. When it arrives, the compact SUV will be the first electrified Jeep designed solely for electric vehicles, and it will be built on Groupe PSA’s e-CMP platform. The CMP architecture is also used in the upcoming Citroen C3 in India.
The compact vehicle will reportedly introduce a zero-emission model for the domestic market sometime next year. This points to the possible arrival of the electrified baby Compass in India, but no official confirmation is available at this time. In terms of the global e-SUV market, it will give rise to electric vehicles from Fiat and Alfa Romeo.
The trio will be manufactured by Stellantis at its Tychy plant in Poland. In response to the world’s stricter emission standards, Jeep plans to offer electric powertrains across its entire lineup in the near future. The upcoming Jeep small electric SUV could be smaller than the Renegade.
It is expected to use the same drivetrain as the DS3 Crossoback and Peugeot 2008, with a 136 hp electric motor working in tandem with a 50 kWh Li-ion battery pack to provide a driving range of 482 km on a single charge. The five-seater could make its debut later this year or in early 2023.
